LOOK! DOROTHY’S ON TV
100 words for Friday Fictioneers
Photoprompt © Nick Allen
I’m supposed to pick one from three hidden behind a screen. Based entirely on their replies to my questions and whatever crumb of a hint the host drops.
Number 1 stammers that his s-s-s-star sign’s Leo then they say he’s run clean away.
Number 2 has a squeaky voice, like he’s a tin can that needs oiling.
Number 3 says he’s known round here for being a right scruff bag.
“Ah,” says the host. “It’s a no brainer.”
I’d rather stay on the shelf. Honestly, the more men I meet, the more I love my dog.
C’mon Toto! We’re going back to Kansas.
The tin man on a dating game show? Lovely, Jilly

I absolutely love the clues, especially “his s-s-s-star sign”. And Dorothy’s reaction gave me the best of giggles. Run, clever girl!

Thank you so much, Magaly, for your lovely comments. My narrator might have chosen the cowardly lion if he hadn’t run away 😉

I loved that show when Cilla did it – a must- watch on Saturday nights back in the day. I can hear the tacky music now – thank you so much.

I was once cilla at my university blind date, I’m relatively glad there’s little photographs

No idea where?!! Honestly, I wore some ones skirt and a silky blouse, awfully applied lipstick and dark red dreadlocks (my own!)

Though if I had to choose, the scarecrow is head and shoulders above the others!

I actually always rather liked the Tin Man – especially when I saw him without the tinny outfit.

And the scarecrow may have been head and shoulder above the rest partially because he was hung up there to scare off crows.😊

Ain’t all that and a bag of chips – you have such a wonderful turn of phrase, Dale – I guarantee that one’s going into the writing soonest 🙂 Absolutely delighted you enjoyed the story and thank you for giving me the best laugh of the day!

Dale, does say the most wonderful things, doesn’t she?

Wonderful, yes, Alicia, Dale has a terrific way with a phrase. Always absolutely on point.

Obviously she did not like any of the men. Why not lower her standard a bit and explore a little with any of the real men. May be she will look what she would find when scratched beneath the surface.

Perhaps she’d be better off with lions or tigers or bears. Oh my! What a great little story.

Funny and clever, Jilly, but there seems to be a developing trend for ladies to prefer their pets to men.

NO. I plan to have Dorothy meet somebody sensitive, understanding and very special which will mean she has her own true friend.

You know, I always think it’s a terrible risk to go on television. Not something I’ve ever been asked to do but some people love to do everything in public. Dorothy clearly found it didn’t work for her 🙂

Great use of the prompt, Jilly. I remember watching “The Dating Game” and wondering which loser the contestant was going to pick. Also, Jerry Springer hosted one called “Baggage” that was even worse.

“Wondering which loser” – brilliant. Ours was called Blind Date but the host, the late Cilla Black, retired from presenting it and though it’s back on it’s not the same without her. Her special talent was her ease with people and I loved that show. So glad you liked my story, Russell!
